Meal Prep

Today I spent a couple of hours in the kitchen prepping food for us to take to work this week. For the next three days I work 13.5 hour shifts, so its nice to have some meals ready to go.

So Many Possiblities...

This weekend has been spent organizing and packing away holiday decorations. Not as fun as when I put it all out...

I now get to choose how I want to fill the empty spaces...

so many choices...

reminds me of life...

Favorite Socks!

The weather has been chilly...perfect for wearing the fun socks Tory gifted me when I was in Oregon this last Fall.

I love the yummy colors...and especially love that they don't match...they quickly became my favorite foot wear.
I love glancing down and being reminded to not take things too seriously!

A quick search for "colorful mismatched socks", and I discovered they are 'Sol Mate Socks'.

I found a good deal at this link;

I think I need another pair...but how to choose which color!?

Fragments: A Visual Year

The beginning of a new year! The canvas is blank, and the possibilities seem unlimited. At the same time, the previous year has ended and is fading away. Countless moments that are fleeting and hard to hold onto.

My New Year's resolution is to do better at capturing and collecting images that reflect my life. Each one a fragment to be gathered...a part of the visual story of my year.

I hope to pay more attention...to slow down and appreciate the moments that reveal the poetry in my days...to hear the whispers of the story...to record more of the journey.

Will the act of consciously documenting more of my daily life change the choices I will make, and the path I will walk this year? Will I do things I wouldn't have otherwise done?

I hope so....

We Three Kings...

I have a small collection of "extra" wise men that I have thrifted over the years. My favorite set is this trio of handmade Magi...

I found them in a thrift store about 12 years ago. The heads and hands seem to be clay, and the bodies have a styrofoam base.
Someone put a lot of time and attention into the details...

Take a peek at this piece of vintage jewelry that was used...

I love bringing them out each year and enjoying the creativity of the unknown artist. It has become a part of my own holiday tradition.

Do you have decorations that have become a tradition in your own home?

Paper Snowflakes

I've been meaning to start a collection of hand-cut paper snowflakes for a couple of years. I get busy during the holidays and kept putting it on the bottom of my to-do list...

Not This Year!

Google "cutting paper snowflakes", and you'll get an abundance of guidance if you'd like to create your own wintry snowfall.

My two tips:

  1. Use cheap printer paper (the thinner paper folds easier)
  2. Use a pair of small SHARP scissors.

Some good links to learn the basic folds are;

(This link is worth checking out even if you're not going to make any...love the picture!)

After the holidays, you can lay the snowflakes flat between the pages of an old magazine and store them with your decorations until next year.

Have fun!

Happy Holidays!

I had some extra time off work yesterday...
so I decorated the family room for Christmas.

On the mantle...
a herd of deer and a small forest of trees...

I love vintage ornaments...
I have enjoyed collecting these over the years from garage sales and thrift stores...

A trio of vintage snowmen...

A trio of vintage angels...

On the hearth...
some of the nativities I've collected...

A thrifted find...
a vintage nativity set from Italy. It's missing Joseph, but note the bag piper...

I love this old paper scene...
Please excuse the wise man who has lost his head...

A small collection...
I have never been able to leave an orphaned baby Jesus behind...

Enjoy the season!

Nature Walk

A few weeks ago I headed off for a nearby canal on my lunch break.
I enjoyed seeing the turning colors...

a tree full of pods...

a badelynge of ducks...

and snow on the mountains...
